The Italians was conceived as a national communication campaign celebrating the diversity, creativity and global appeal of Made in Italy. Developed for the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the campaign brought together an extraordinarily broad spectrum of Italian excellence, from art and culture to fashion and design, from advanced aerospace and security technologies to heritage, mobility and the nautical industry.
At the heart of the identity was a deliberately simple and highly flexible idea: The Italians became a platform that could be activated through language. By placing a verb or action alongside the name, the campaign could continuously change its meaning and invite participation: Love The Italians. Admire The Italians. Discover The Italians. Join The Italians. The result was a verbal system capable of expressing curiosity, admiration, pride and engagement while maintaining a strong and recognisable visual constant.
The campaign was designed to move comfortably between very different worlds and audiences. Its modular language allowed the same identity to celebrate a fashion collection, a work of art, an architectural achievement, a technological innovation or a historic craft, creating a common thread between apparently unrelated expressions of Italian excellence. Rather than defining Made in Italy through a single aesthetic, the campaign presented it as a living ecosystem of ideas, skills, culture and innovation.
The project explored how a simple name can become a powerful communication device when supported by an adaptable visual and verbal system. The Italians was ultimately less about defining what Italian excellence is and more about creating an invitation to experience it, in all its forms, across Italy and around the world.
